World Orphans Day
World Orphans Day is celebrated annually on the second Monday of November. It was started in the USA by the charitable foundation The Stars Foundation. The purpose of this holiday is to convey to people various ways of helping children who were orphaned as a result of military conflicts, accidents, natural disasters, or were abandoned by their parents at birth.
The first state-run orphanage was established in 400 AD in Rome. But laws about the care of the state for children under the age of 18, who were left without parents, were drawn up by the ancient Greeks and Jews. In the Middle Ages, churches dealt with this problem.
A critical number of children who were left without parental warmth and help was created in Europe at the beginning of the 17th century. Also at that time, it was exacerbated by terrible living conditions, which led to high child mortality.
Currently, orphanages are being created all over the world. But most specialists assure that this is the worst option for children. After all, without constant contact with a close adult and care, a child cannot develop comprehensively.
