How wonderful it is to see children’s smiles and hear their laughter, because it is in childhood that everything seems rosy and positive. Every child has the right to be happy. Healthy and happy children are the key to a better future for every country. It should be remembered that regardless of his age, a child is already a person. World Children’s Day was established by the United Nations. Its main goal is full-fledged development of the child, involvement in full-fledged social life. It has been proven more than once that the quality of children’s years depends on their entire future life. Every year, World Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20.

How did the idea to celebrate World Children’s Day come about?

The day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20 each year, with the aim of promoting international solidarity to improve the well-being of children and adolescents.

November 20 is an important date because in 1959 the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Also, on November 20, 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1990, simultaneously with the World Children’s Day, the anniversary of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of both the Declaration and the Convention on the Rights of the Child has been celebrated.

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government officials and civil society activists, religious and community leaders, corporate tycoons and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves can all play an important role in bringing Universal Children’s Day into their lives, societies, communities and nations.

Universal Children’s Day offers each of us a point of reference to advocate and strengthen children’s rights, turning them into dialogue and action that will create a better world for children.

Why is this day important?

Although it is important to celebrate all children on this day, it is also necessary to inform them of the difficulties that other children face every day, for example, children are exploited as laborers, live in regions where there are military conflicts, or live on the streets.

On this day, international organizations also call on schools and teachers to talk about the reality of less fortunate children in the world. The idea is for children to know what fundamental rights children all over the world should have, regardless of their nationality, origin or social status.

A strong focus must be placed on education, as out-of-school children are often the most vulnerable and may then experience the hardships and horrors of child labor and armed conflict.

In any case, the holiday provides another opportunity to draw the attention of high-ranking officials to urgent issues related to improving the life and development of every child.

The importance of education

Despite some progress made in the level of children’s participation in education, many children are still unable to go to school for various reasons, and many educational institutions around the world lack water points and even toilets.

Some children do not attend school because they can speak a language that is not used in schools, so differences in language, religion and background are still barriers that children face.

For example, in some countries of the world, the education of girls is not valued, because society assigns them functions that do not require education. This leads to the fact that most girls cannot attend school and are forced to marry at a young age. On the other hand, in some societies, boys are required to work instead of continuing their education in adolescence.
