World Anti-Terrorism Day
Since 2008, September 11 has been celebrated annually World Anti-Terrorism Day. The date was chosen to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, when planes carrying terrorists crashed into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.
Terrorism is an activity that poses a particular danger to society. The essence of terrorism is the purposeful and deliberate use of violent acts, the organization of explosions and arson, the kidnapping of people with the use of torture, murder and hostage-taking in order to intimidate state structures and ordinary people in order to achieve a criminal goal. All acts of terrorism are accompanied by violence or the threat of violence, directed mostly against the civilian population. At the same time, specific conditions are put forward by the terrorists. Terrorist attacks most often have political motives and occur in such a way as to attract as much public attention as possible.
Today, terrorism from isolated cases is growing into a mass phenomenon and becoming an integral part of political and economic processes in the world. Terrorist activities are not only carried out by individuals or organizations, but also by states. The fight against terrorism is aimed at timely detection and prevention of terrorist activity, as well as minimizing the possible consequences of terrorist activity.
