Patient Safety Day in Ukraine

According to the decree signed by President Zelensky on September 4, 2019, Patient Safety Day in Ukraine is celebrated annually on September 17, as well as a worldwide holiday.

The adopted decision complies with the principles of the WHO and is based on ensuring compliance with the rights of patients who need quality medical assistance.

According to the WHO, harming people undergoing treatment is one of the major causes of death and disability of patients. And such damage can be prevented if measures and programs are implemented:

• «Pure medicine — safe medicine»
• «Safe surgery saves lives»
• «Safe Medicines»

Thanks to such programs, postoperative mortality in some hospitals of Ukraine has halved.
