Day of remembrance of employees of internal affairs bodies who died in the line of duty
August 22 Ukraine honors memory of employees of the internal affairs bodies who died in the course of their duties. Police countries pay tribute to their colleagues who lost their lives fighting criminals.
A minute of silence, volleys of shots, flowers near memorials – this is how this day passes in different cities of Ukraine. Relatives of the fallen law enforcement officers, together with colleagues of the heroes, honor the memory of their relatives, friends and colleagues.
How did the idea to celebrate the Day of Remembrance of the employees of the internal affairs bodies who died in the performance of official duties come about?
This landmark event has been held annually on August 22 since 1996. Solemn events are accompanied by memorial requiems, laying of flowers at memorials, opening of new commemorative plaques to heroes who gave their lives in the fight against crime. Mourning celebrations are attended by representatives of the leadership of the Central Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of the Association of Veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Organization of Veterans of the Central Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
How is this event celebrated?
On this day, memorial services are held in churches, and memorial events are held in cities. Since 2019, a memorial candle has been lit in honor of the fallen law enforcement officers. Colleagues-heroes and outfits of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system, who stand in for the service, are honored.
