International Day of the Right to Establish the Truth About Gross Violations of Human Rights and Dignity of Victims

Every year on March 24, the whole planet celebrates an important holiday – International Day of the Right to Establish the Truth About Gross Violations of Human Rights and Victims’ Dignity. The event was launched by the United Nations on December 21, 2010.

Such a day was created and the date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the Christian father Oscar Romero, who was killed by soldiers in 1980 during a divine service because Romero called for an end to military actions that violate human rights.

Day of the right to establish the truth about gross violations of human rights and the dignity of victims aims to honor the memory of people like Oscar Romero, to involve humanity in mutual respect, tolerance, kindness, cessation of violence and observance of human rights.
