World Oyster Day

August 5 is celebrated annually International Oyster Day. For the first time, this day was celebrated in the USA, where it was a national day.

Food of the poor and an aphrodisiac

Now oysters can safely be called a delicacy, but earlier, in the 16th and 17th centuries, in France and Great Britain, this mollusk was considered the food of the poor. Although in Italy oysters were also consumed by the rich. Here, this product gained fame due to the love affairs and reputation of Casanova, who, according to others, ate fifty of these molluscs for breakfast. At that time, oysters were considered an aphrodisiac, later world scientists confirmed this fact.

  • Today there are approximately 100 species of oysters, which are named after the reservoirs in which they were grown. In addition to the status of an aphrodisiac, the mollusk boasts a rich supply of trace elements and vitamins A, C, D, B12. The most nutritious and healthy oysters are raw. In restaurants, they are served with a slice of lemon, vinegar or butter and salt.

How to spend this day?

Now oysters have the status of a delicacy that everyone should try at least once. There is no better reason for this than an international holiday. So spend this day with friends eating oysters. In America, this day is celebrated with traditional “competitions” of restaurants in the preparation and original presentation of a seafood delicacy.
