International Day of Non-Governmental Organizations
It is celebrated annually on February 27 International Day of Non-Governmental Organizations (World NGO Day). The idea of the holiday arose in 2009 at the initiative of student Marcis Liors Skadmanis, but the World NGO Day was officially approved by the Council of the Baltic Sea States on April 17, 2010 at the Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations. The first international celebration took place in 2014.
Non-governmental organizations are not governed by the government or commercial sectors, they are the backbone of civil society, having a huge impact on most areas of human life. Non-governmental organizations include various public associations, professional unions, creative unions, charitable organizations, divisions of foreign NGOs, etc.
International Day of Non-Governmental Organizations aims to draw public attention to the results of NGO activity and the important role of such organizations for the country as a whole, to thank the workers and honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the mission associated with non-governmental organizations.
Until February 27, thematic lectures, discussions, information events, exhibitions, etc. are being created.
