World Breastfeeding Support Week
Since 1990, from August 1 to 7, it has been held all over the world breastfeeding support week. This week is celebrated in honor of the “Innocent” Declaration, which was signed by representatives of the governments of many countries, WHO, UNICEF and some public organizations. Every year, hundreds of countries join efforts to promote breastfeeding instead of milk substitutes.
The purpose of World Breastfeeding Week
Drawing the attention of women themselves and society to the necessity of breastfeeding a child from the first minutes of life.
- It has been proven that artificial feeding poses a significant threat to the health of babies and causes more than 3,500 deaths every day.
In addition to outreach work, representatives of the organizations are pushing for the introduction of paid leave for both parents. They are convinced that such measures will contribute to the development of joint responsibility for the child in families on equal terms.
Attention is also drawn to the creation of conditions at enterprises after a woman’s return to work.
- Providing breaks for feeding the child.
- Equipment for special rooms for expressing breast milk and storing it.
- Creation of child care services, the cost of which will be affordable for the low-income population.
In 2019, the first Breast Milk Bank was opened in Ukraine to support breastfeeding.
