Independence Day of Uzbekistan
On September 1, the main holiday of the country – Independence Day – is celebrated by the Republic of Uzbekistan. On August 31, 1991, at the seventh extraordinary session, the Verkhovna Rada of the Republic proclaimed its independence. By the corresponding resolution, September 1 was approved as Independence Day.
The independence of the state was recognized by 165 countries, with 120 of them it was possible to establish diplomatic relations. Tashkent has embassies of more than 40 other countries, as well as many representative offices of organizations that are not related to the government. Uzbek embassies are open in 25 cities of the world, and consulates in 10.
Now Uzbekistan is a country with a centuries-old history, a state of deserts, steppes, mountains and more than 2 thousand mosques. Some Uzbek cities are 2,700 years old. One of such ancient cities is Samarkand, which, together with its historical monuments, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Another interesting fact: Uzbekistan ranks second among all countries in the world in terms of gold production.
