Social Worker’s Day
What day is it?
Of course, it is so important for us to get timely help, to find someone who will give us hope for the best. We hope to find compassionate people who will help us in difficult times. They are such assistants – workers of the social sphere. People whose vocation is to help others. They have answers to all questions, and the lights of mercy are always burning in their hearts. Every year in Ukraine, the Day of Social Workers is celebrated on the first Sunday of November. This year the holiday falls on November 7.
Even in the ancient world, there were people in human societies who felt the strength to help others, to direct them to the right path. Even during the lifetime of the ancient philosophers, such modern sciences as psychology, sociology, and jurisprudence began to take shape.
People have always needed mentors and guides on the path of life. So, for example, Aristotle believed that the desire to communicate pushes people to create a family. Families communicate with each other – villages are formed. Settlements communicate with each other – states are formed. And according to Aristotle, people create the state for “a possible better life.”
Even then, people who were ready to share their positive experience of creating a family began to appear. Educational centers of that time were established, where people were provided with various kinds of help, including psychological and elementary knowledge of jurisprudence.
Thus, the citizen became better aware of his rights and took significant steps to improve the development of his family. It was then that the prototype of the modern social worker began to appear. For a long time, this profession was not given proper importance. Despite everything, the need for such people grew from generation to generation.
Therefore, when in the modern world a person feels inspired to help others, he chooses the path of a social worker. After all, he must be knowledgeable in legal issues related to the pension case, issues of social protection of children and citizens with limited physical capabilities. Do not forget about the skills of a teacher and educator in order to provide the necessary support and care to a person who needs it.
Undoubtedly, such a worker must sometimes be a psychologist to detect mental disorders and possess sufficient skill to instill hope.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated April 13, 1999 No. 374/99, the Day of the Social Worker is celebrated on the first Sunday of November. Since the introduction of this holiday, hundreds of thousands of workers celebrate their professional holiday. And an even greater number of citizens receive the necessary assistance.

Today, more than 150,000 people work in the social sphere in Ukraine.

These are workers from social protection, education and health care, culture and household services, etc.
If a person has health problems, is left alone, without family and friends, has problems with employment or is in a similar difficult situation. In difficult life situations, it is the workers of the social sphere who provide support and immediately help in solving such issues.
- As a rule, events on the occasion of the Day of the Social Worker take place in city cultural centers, where representatives of official organizations welcome all persons working in this field.
- If your loved one works in the social sphere or you want to thank a dedicated social worker, you can give a few flowers or sweets.
- Your words of gratitude will not go unnoticed either, because they can penetrate to the depths of the soul.
Why is this day important?
It is important that social workers feel support and attention.
They work at the call of their hearts for the benefit of others, and receiving feedback, their kindness will be enough for everyone.
