Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Feast of the Immaculate Conception The Virgin Mary is celebrated on December 8 by the Catholic Church. In the Orthodox Church, the understanding of original sin differs from Catholic dogmas. The Catholic Church believes that even after being born from the womb of ordinary people, Mary did not absorb original sin. This means that from birth she is incapable of doing evil.

In the 15th century, Pope Sixtus IV officially included the feast of the Virgin in the list of celebrations recognized by the Catholic Church, and in 1956, Pope Pius IX established a dogma proclaiming the purity and integrity of the mother of Jesus. This event happened exactly on December 8.

After the holiday was recognized by the Catholic Church, it spread throughout Western Europe. In some countries, it is celebrated as a public holiday. In Panama, this day is also considered Mother’s Day.
