International day of actions for the adoption of the Declaration of Animal Rights
December 10 is celebrated almost all over the world every year International Day of actions for the adoption of the Declaration of Animal Rights, or International Animal Rights Day. This measure was approved in 1998 on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights. The date of the celebration was chosen specifically to emphasize once again that all living beings, whether animal or human, have the right to a full, safe existence and protection.
The declaration once again emphasizes the intelligence of animals and emphasizes their right to live without humiliation and suffering. It also regulates the principles of reducing cruelty to domestic and farm animals, as well as to animals used for research in laboratories.
On this day, a candle-lighting event is held as a tribute to the Declaration of Human Rights and a symbol of forward movement towards the implementation of the principles described in it to all living beings. Pickets, rallies, and protests are also held on this day. In Ukraine, the holiday has been actively introduced since 2010 with the support of animal protection organizations.
