International Condom Day
Every year on February 13, the planet celebrates a non-standard, but important holiday – International Condom Day. The event is quite young, it was celebrated for the first time in 2007. February 13 was chosen as the date of the celebration to remind people on the eve of Valentine’s Day about the importance of safe sex.
Awareness of condom and its use is extremely important, because it is considered the most effective and affordable means of protection against sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancy.
The very first condom is about 400 years old, the doctor Charles Condom created such a contraceptive for Henry VIII from a cat and a sheep. The first rubber condom dates back to 1855, and already in 1920 condoms began to be made of latex.
Often condoms are used not only for their intended purpose. An interesting fact is that the Indian city of Varanas uses condoms for the production of saris, about 600,000 are used per day. Also, for example, the artist Adriana Bertini makes full-fledged sculptures from condoms.
