Free money day

Every year on September 15, the world is held Free money day or International Free Money Day. On this day, a social experiment is taking place, which was first conducted in 2011 at the initiative of several researchers from the Post Growth Institute. It all started with finding ways to draw the public’s attention and involve them in the discussion of financial reform. And after 4 years, more than 200 events were held in 41 countries of the world, at which about 10,000 dollars were distributed.

The purpose of this day is to promote the exchange of ideas and original economic views, as well as to show people in an interesting and exciting way how it can be if the attitude to money is different.

  • On this day, in person or virtually, people all over the world hand out money to strangers – two coins or bills each, asking in return to give half to another stranger. The goal of such an initiative is to ignite the spirit of kindness in people and demonstrate that peace can be more generous.

September 15 was chosen in honor of the event – the anniversary of the bankruptcy of the American investment bank Lehman Brothers Holdings, which was founded back in 1850 and was called one of the world’s leading financial giants.
