Memorial Day of Saints Archippus and Philemon

The Orthodox Church honors March 4 (in a leap year – March 3) every year memory of the holy apostles Archippus and Philemonas well as Philimon’s wife, Apphia, who lived in the 1st century on the territory of modern Turkey (the city of Colosse).

Saint Archippus served as a bishop in Colossae, and Saint Philemon was a wealthy resident of the same city who converted to Christianity. Both were disciples of the Apostle Paul and were martyred for Jesus Christ at the hands of idolaters. Archippus and Philemon with their wife Apphia were attacked during church prayer. All three were brutally stoned, and the pagans also cut St. Archips with knives.

The saints died without betraying the Christian faith.
