Every year on the second Sunday of October in Ukraine, employees of the state sanitary and epidemiological service celebrate their professional holiday. It was approved by the President of Ukraine in 2004. The purpose of the celebration is to highlight the importance of this industry in protecting people’s health and protecting against serious infectious diseases and the impact of harmful environmental factors.

In Ukraine, the sanitary-epidemiological service was founded more than 90 years ago. Since then, the latest technologies have been introduced that help reliably and quickly detect dangerous pathogenic microorganisms and toxic substances in food products.

In 2017, the service as a separate department was liquidated, as its functions were performed by other institutions (Ministry of Health, etc.). But in 2020, the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine expressed an assumption about the restoration of service as part of the Ministry of Health.
