World Premature Day
Every year on November 17, humanity celebrates an international event – the World Day of the Premature Child. The idea of this day appeared in 2008, initiated by the European Fund for Aid to Newborns. So, in 2009, the first celebration of this day took place, but the name was different: “International Prematurity Awareness Day”. Already the following year, the circle of organizations participating in this event expanded significantly, so it was decided to make the event international and change its name to “World Day of Premature Babies” in 2011. Every year, attention to the topic of premature babies and attention to the event grows: more than a hundred countries and millions of people around the world unite to solve the problem of prematurity.
- Disappointing statistics say that approximately every tenth child is born prematurely, and every year more than a million children in the world die due to prematurity.
The World Day of Premature Babies is designed to declare the importance of this problem, the need to help doctors and families of premature babies, and to raise public awareness of this.
