World Population Day

July 11 is celebrated every year World Population Day. This event was initiated by the United Nations in 1989. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the date when the world’s population exceeded 5 billion people, which happened on this day in 1987.

The purpose of World Population Day

World Population Day aims to draw society’s attention to issues related to the Earth’s population, involvement in joint prosperity and solving world problems. Every year, a certain theme is chosen for the holiday.

  • The UN predicts an increase in the number of people on Earth to 10 billion (approximately by 2050).
  • Unlike China, the USA and India, Ukraine’s population is currently declining.
