World Microbiome Day

June 27 is celebrated World Microbiome Day. The decision to celebrate it was made in 2018. The celebration was initiated by the Irish Microbiome Association.

The purpose of World Microbiome Day

The purpose of the holiday is to raise public awareness of the bright and diverse world of microbes that surround us. Microorganisms live in the soil, plant and animal world, food products, and most importantly – in the human body, directly influencing the state of health and well-being. Microorganisms inside us are part of important processes, from digestion to mood.

What is the Microbiome?

Microbiome The human body is made up of trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, that live in and on the human body. Each person has his own unique microbiota, which is formed from birth to the age of three, and after that it gradually changes. At first, changes occur under the influence of breast milk and other natural processes, then lifestyle and environmental factors become factors.

Representatives of the association believe that the diverse and interesting world of microbiomes should receive more attention and recognition due to its impact on human health, on the existence of the animal world and the environment. A celebration World Microbiome Day they remind humanity of the existence of microbes and their diversity.
