World Multiplication Table Day

International Multiplication Table Day is celebrated annually on October 2. This mathematical holiday has been celebrated since 2010.

The oldest table was used for the hexadecimal calculation and helped the ancient Babylonians 4 thousand years ago. The first multiplication table, similar to the present one, was invented in China more than 300 years BC. It was made from bamboo boards and used to calculate decimal numbers. Later, the invention was attributed to the mathematician Pythagoras, after which the table received his name, which is still used today.

The multiplication table is the foundation on which all mathematical operations rest. That is why it is very important to learn it in time and use it in practice. For example, according to the standards of British education, children should master the table by the age of 11. In Ukraine, it is also studied in primary grades. Several months are allocated for memorization.
