International Mentoring Day

Since 2017, the world community has celebrated January 17 as International Mentoring Day. It is dedicated to the birthday of Muhammad Ali, the legendary boxer and outstanding public figure.

The purpose of this holiday is to promote global understanding and support of the mentoring movement throughout the world. Using the example of Muhammad Ali’s life and activities, one can appreciate the incredible power of mentoring and its influence on creating a better world.

A mentor can teach how to create strong and positive long-term relationships, inspire and promote personal development. Mentoring also helps broaden horizons and transcend stereotypes about race, sexual orientation, religion, disability, etc.

Mentoring has the power to change society both locally and globally. Each of us faces mentoring at every stage of life. Our parents, then teachers, friends in one way or another influence the formation of our outlook and worldview.
