International Coffee Day
On October 1, the world celebrates International Coffee Day. The holiday was started by the International Coffee Organization in 2015.
The inhabitants of Ethiopia originally used coffee beans as food, not to create a drink. While traveling, they made balls by adding animal fat to the seeds, which they then ate.
The first coffee house was opened in Istanbul in 1554, because the drink brought from Syria was very popular with the local residents. Coffee was first tried in Ukraine in 1672 in Kamianets-Podilskyi. It was then that the first coffee shop in Ukraine was opened.
The drink has a good effect on the work of the heart and the human immune system. Scientists have proven that by drinking 3 cups of coffee a day, you reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 50%. Thanks to the fragrant drink, brain activity improves, a person feels a surge of strength and energy.
Interesting Facts
- The drink “Americano” was invented by American soldiers during the Second World War. European espresso seemed too strong to them.
- In Europe, the biggest coffee drinkers are the inhabitants of Finland: on average, Finns drink 5 cups of coffee a day.
- In some countries, the drink is prepared not only from beans, but also from the leaves of the coffee tree. They are brewed in the same way as tea.
