International Day of People with Down Syndrome

Every year, the world celebrates March 21 International Day of People with Down Syndrome. The event was initiated by the European Down Syndrome Association on March 21, 2006. The date of celebration was chosen as a deciphering of the cause of the syndrome (21.03 – three 21st chromosomes). On December 20, 2007, Down Syndrome Day gained international status.

  • Down syndrome is a congenital genetic pathology discovered by John Down in 1866. The worldview of such people is different from the usual one, they develop more slowly, but they are very talented and kind.

International Day of People with Down Syndrome aims to improve awareness of the disease, call for equal existence in society of people with the syndrome.

Every year, 300 to 400 children with the syndrome are born in Ukraine. The development of inclusive education in the country is extremely important for the full life of children with this pathology.
