Day of the employee of the glass industry or glass manufacturer
Every year on November 19, Ukraine celebrates the State Professional Day of Glass Industry Workers. The holiday was initiated by the President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, on December 9, 2003, by signing the relevant Decree.
The date of this event was chosen in honor of the birthday of the scientist Mykhailo Lomonosov in 1711, who created the chemical production of glass, the manufacturing technology and the recipe for colored glass. It is worth noting that the oldest glass products appeared in Egypt. In Russia, starting from the 11th century, the production of artistic glass products using the technology adopted from the Byzantines began. Mostly, these were mosaics and glassware, the production was not mass-produced, to a greater extent, they were works of art. In the late 19th century, with the invention of the Siemens-Martin furnace, glassmaking became widespread and widely available.
