Every year on November 19, Ukraine celebrates a state professional holiday – the Day of Hydrometeorological Service Employees. The event was launched by President Leonid Kuchma on March 11, 2003. The month of celebration is chosen in honor of the month of creation of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Service (November 1920s).

Hydrometeorology is a whole scientific discipline that studies all processes of the atmosphere and hydrosphere, summarizes the data of geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, meteorology, etc. The hydrometeorological service is a state institution that conducts various hydrological and meteorological observations in a certain area. Employees of this service faithfully perform their duties, warning citizens about dangerous natural phenomena, forecasting the weather and monitoring the environment.

It is known that there are about 5,000 employees of the hydrometeorological service in Ukraine.
