Every year on December 22, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Diplomatic Service Employees of Ukraine – a professional national holiday of diplomats, as well as employees of diplomatic missions, consulates and embassies of our country. Diplomatic Service Workers’ Day is a working day.

The event is quite young – it was initiated by President Viktor Yushchenko, signing a decree on November 21, 2005. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the establishment of the General Secretariat of International Affairs in 1917, which later became the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Day of the Diplomatic Service of Ukraine was created to honor the activities of diplomats, which consists in maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relations with other countries, protecting Ukrainians abroad and ensuring the security of Ukraine.
