World Laziness Day
What day is it?
World Laziness Dayor World Sloth Day, noted on August 20, people who are not in a hurry to get to work. On this day, everyone can arrange a real holiday for themselves, namely, idle around and do nothing. Despite the fact that the holiday is unofficial, it quickly gained popularity among the inhabitants of the Earth. And although there are those who celebrate their day of laziness almost every day, for most people rest is extremely important. It was for them that World Laziness Day was created, which in 2022 will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 20.
How did the idea to celebrate World Laziness Day come about?
The place of origin of World Sloth Day is considered to be Colombia, namely the industrial town of Itagui with a population of more than 200,000 people. The initiative to introduce the celebration of the Day of Sloths was implemented in 1984. It was at that time that a commercial and industrial festival was held, at which various types of art were presented, and it was during this festival that the residents who worked in the factories and factories of the city were called to put aside work and all important matters, and really relax on the holiday.
After the celebration, Colombians realized that they really lacked rest. And they began to defend their right to laziness, saying that idleness is the same human right as the right to religion, the right to freedom or freedom of speech.
Thus, August 20 is a day when everyone has the opportunity to turn from a working person into a lazy person. And if for some idleness is resting at home on the sofa, others rest more actively – on deckchairs, in city parks and even outside the city. The main thing is not to forget to take something tasty with you. And if on this day you meet people who have taken a horizontal position on a sunbed or on a blanket in one of the city parks, do not be surprised – they already know about the existence of such a holiday and they simply enjoy celebrating it. By the way, mass “outings” for recreation in the open air with their chairs and sunbeds are quite a traditional and widespread phenomenon in Colombia.
Every year on August 20, Colombians hold mass street competitions, in which you can participate, or you can just watch them. The main thing is that no one will force you to do anything.
World Laziness Day in other countries
Celebrate the initiative Laziness day On August 20, other countries also caught up. But in the United States of America there is its own National Day of Laziness, which is celebrated a little earlier, namely on August 10. And although the dates of the celebration are slightly different, the content remains the same, the Day of Laziness is a great reason to give up any kind of work or engage in only one thing – idleness.
Of course, the purpose of the holiday is not to glorify idlers and laziness. However, people should understand that chronic fatigue and constant stress are inseparable companions of modern man. And to get rid of them, it is enough to be a little lazy. And laziness, which was previously considered not the best of human qualities, is not so bad and useless. Because people were too lazy to wash by hand, washing machines appeared. Because it was too lazy to walk, cars were invented, the same can be said for vacuum cleaners, remote controls, elevators, etc. The main thing is that idleness does not turn into a habit.
