Independence Day of the United Mexican States

Independence Day of the United Mexican States celebrated on September 16. More than two hundred years ago (in 1810), on this day, the inhabitants of the country raised a popular uprising, which was led by Father Hidalgo. According to legend, he went to the main balcony of the National Palace and rang the bell, thereby calling the people of Mexico to the liberation struggle. The result of their efforts was liberation from Spanish rule.

The struggle lasted eleven long years. The final victory was won in 1821, after which Mexico became an independent state.

The solemn program of celebrations begins on the night of September 15 with theatrical performances that illustrate the struggle of the Mexican people.

In honor of the holiday, local residents wear national clothes – charos and china poblanas. Tourists can take a photo in a sombrero. The peak of the celebration falls at 11 o’clock in the evening, when the head of state arrives at the main square of the country. On the roof of the National Palace, the bell with which the revolution was once called is still preserved. The President hits the bell, after which the crowd chants “Viva Mexico”. The festivities end with festive fireworks.
