World Blood Donor Day

What day is it?

Every year on June 14, the planet celebrates an important event – World Blood Donor Day. This holiday was established by the United Nations on May 23, 2005. The day was chosen in accordance with the date of birth of the Austrian physician, Nobel Prize laureate Karl Landsteiner, who was born on June 14, 1868.

The purpose of World Blood Donor Day

Blood Donor Day aims to honor volunteers who donate their own blood free of charge, develop donation programs, involve society in voluntary donation, raise awareness of humanity about the importance of regular free blood donation, so that hospitals have the necessary blood reserves for transfusions.
