Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day is celebrated in Ukraine every year on October 1. This holiday was started in 2004 in accordance with the Presidential Decree. On this day, respect and gratitude are expressed both to veterans who went through the Second World War, and to soldiers who defended the independence of the state during the Russian aggression.

For the first time, Roman soldiers who served the empire for more than 20 years were called veterans. For their service, they received generous monetary rewards or land plots. Every legionnaire had the right to become a resident of Rome for his devoted service.

The Ministry of Veteran Affairs operates in Ukraine, the main tasks of which are social protection, rehabilitation and other assistance to veterans and their family members. It also deals with the issues of granting the status of UBD, persons with disabilities as a result of the war, registration of benefits, etc.

According to Ukrainian legislation, veterans are considered to be participants in hostilities, veterans of military service, injured participants of the Revolution of Dignity, participants in the war, and persons who have made special contributions to the Motherland.
