Saint Xenia of Rome Day
On February 6, believers of the Orthodox and Greek Catholic churches honor the memory Saint Xenia of Rome. The saint was born in the 5th century in the family of a Roman senator and was named Eusenia. The girl’s soul yearned for God from an early age, but her parents had other plans. When Ksenia grew up, her parents chose a groom for her and began preparations for marriage. Yevsenia disobeyed the will of her parents, gave her property to the needy and, together with 2 maids, ran away from her parents’ house at night.
Yevsenia settled on one of the islands near the shores of Asia Minor, took the name Ksenia and completely devoted herself to the service of the Creator. Later, she settled in the city of Milas, where she built the church of St. Stephen with her own funds, founded a Christian community, and immediately became a novice. Saint Ksenia led a humble life, served as a counselor for sinners, supported the broken-hearted, helped the poor, saved many souls. A nun died in Milas while praying. The flight of her soul to God was marked by the appearance of a sign above the monastery – a golden wreath with a shining cross. The wreath accompanied the body of the nun until the burial itself. and relics healed the sick.
