International Water Cleanup Day

Ecological holiday International Water Cleanup Day celebrated in many countries of the world on the first Sunday of June. Celebrating this date is a call to public awareness, a request to protect the planet’s water resources. In favorable warm weather, divers and enthusiastic young people from different cities and countries are engaged in cleaning water bodies and coasts.

Importance of the International Day of Reservoir Cleaning

  • The situation with the environment is problematic all over the world. Water resources suffer especially from the scientific and technological progress of mankind. Reservoirs are clogged with effluents from industrial enterprises, chemical elements, and ordinary dirt.

Therefore, with the support of the World Wildlife Fund, under the leadership of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors and with the participation of other international organizations, the celebration is taking place International Water Cleanup Day since 1995.

At first, only divers performed cleaning work. Now they are joined by young people who care about the state of water resources. They pick up garbage from the bottom and clean the shores, thereby setting an example of conscious use of natural resources to all mankind.
