International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development
Every year on December 5, the planet celebrates International Volunteer Day. The holiday was established by the United Nations on December 17, 1985 in the name of economic and social development. The Day of Volunteers should encourage society to do unpaid voluntary work in a wide variety of fields of activity.
Volunteering as an official movement was created in the 20s of the 20th century. In 1920, young people in France invented a volunteer project, which consisted in the restoration of a farm that was damaged during the First World War.
In Ukraine, active volunteering began in 2014 during the Revolution of Dignity. Currently, there is a war going on in the east of the country, where a lot of volunteers are participating: military and ordinary people, who help to collect funds, medicine, clothes, etc., and are also engaged in transportation.
