International Arabic Language Day

Every year on December 18, the world celebrates the international holiday – Arabic Language Day, which is quite young, since it was founded in 2010. The initiator of the approval of such a holiday was the United Nations. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the day of the decision to include the Arabic language in the list of official languages of the United Nations in 1973. In 2012, Arabic Language Day acquired the status of a world day.

The purpose of the International Arabic Language Day is to promote the equal use of all six official languages of the UN, to spread the idea of cultural diversity and multilingualism of our planet.

Arabic is spoken by about 310 million people, it is part of the Afrasian family, and it is also divided into three types: literary (used by the media and politicians), classical (the language of the Koran) and colloquial (used in everyday life and divided into various dialects).
