Independence Day of the Republic of El Salvador
An important national holiday Independence Dayan often underestimated Central American country celebrates on September 15 – Salvador.
The conquistador Pedro de Alvarado, an associate of Cortes, was the first to invade the territory of modern Salvador. This happened in 1524, and the following year the Spaniards founded the city of San Salvador, which is now the capital of the country and one of the largest cities. But for the Spaniards, the process of conquest turned out to be difficult. It was possible to gain a foothold only in 1529, and to overcome the resistance of the Nahua Indians in the 1540s. Later, Salvador became part of the Captaincy General of Guatemala and stayed there until 1821.
Salvador made the first attempts to free itself from Spanish rule back in 1811, but then the colonial troops quickly crushed the rebellion in the bud. Independence was achieved in 1821. Such national figures as Jose Matias Delgado, Manuel Jose Arce, Jose Simeon Canas contributed to this significant event. By the way, Delgado was elected chairman of the constituent assembly in 1823.
Now El Salvador is a small, but developed and diverse country with friendly, hospitable people. This place is also called the “land of volcanoes”. There are 177 volcanoes here, 20 of which are actually considered active.
