Independence Day of the Kingdom of Lesotho

Each year, the Kingdom of Lesotho celebrates its Independence Day on October 4. This African country was formed in 1818, then it was ruled by King Mosweshwe the First. But in 1868, Lesotho became part of the British Empire.

This day was first celebrated in 1966, when the country gained sovereignty and became independent from Great Britain. The organizers of the holiday hold annual parades and concert programs. An official reception in Maseru is a mandatory attribute.

The Kingdom of Lesotho has a small area – about 30 thousand square kilometers and a population of just over 2 million. The inhabitants of the state are very hardworking. They make full use of the earth’s natural resources, extracting diamonds for export, producing vegetables and wheat.
