Independence Day and Republic Day of Mauritius

Every year on March 12, Mauritius celebrates two holidays at once – Independence Day and Republic Daybecause it was on this day in 1968 that Mauritius gained independence from Great Britain, and on March 12, but already in 1992, the island state received the status of a republic.

The first mentions of the island appeared in 1502, the official discovery took place in 1505 thanks to the Portuguese Petro de Mashcarenyash. Mauritius is considered one of the richest countries in Africa, which has a completely free education.

Agriculture is actively developing in the republic, in particular the production of tobacco, tea and sugar. The island is famous for its incredible nature: coral reefs, fertile land, rare animals, tropical forests, etc. That is why Mauritius is an interesting tourist destination. Mauritius has as many as 4 official languages: English, Mauritian, French and Creole. The area of ​​the island is 2040 km².
