Since 2007, the first Sunday of August has become a professional holiday for everyone related to the Air Force of Ukraine – Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its celebration was established by the president, along with the cancellation of Air Defense Forces Day.

This type of troops appeared on the territory of Ukraine in 1917. And since 1930, higher educational institutions began to open in Kharkiv, Poltava, Chuguyev, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Luhansk, where pilots and other air defense specialists were trained.

Modern airplanes, helicopters, and anti-aircraft missile systems are currently in service with Ukraine. The Air Force also includes radio engineering and engineering troops, reconnaissance units, and special air defense units.

The purpose of the holiday is to draw society’s attention to the need for the development of the Armed Forces, in particular their air units, in connection with the ongoing Russian aggression.
