Every year on the first Sunday of April in the countries of the former USSR, a professional holiday is celebrated – Geologist’s Day. In 2022, the date of the celebration falls on April 3. The event was established in the Soviet Union on March 31, 1966 at the initiative of geologists. In Ukraine, the commemoration has continued since 1995.

Work geologist and related professions covers such activities as research of the lithosphere, discovery of mineral deposits, study of the physical properties of the earth’s subsoil, analysis of the chemical composition of mountains, study of the movement of the earth’s crust and much more.

Geologist’s Day aims to thank geologists, cartographers, geophysicists, surveyors, etc. for their important work, as well as to increase the interest of workers in this field.
