Memorial Day of Reverend Niphon of Cyprus
Orthodox Christians celebrate January 5 Memorial Day of Reverend Niphon of Cyprus. His life is an example of a desperate struggle against the fall. It inspires people and gives hope that sincere repentance leads to forgiveness.
As a child, Nifont was an obedient and God-fearing boy. But in his youth, the environment influenced him. He began to lead a sinful life. When he passed out, he was horrified by his behavior and actions. He believed that it was impossible for him to receive forgiveness, so he did not stop.
One day he met a friend, and he said that Nyphont’s face had turned black. Then he realized what was waiting for him, got scared and repented.
He renounced worldly life and prayed to the Mother of God every day, begging for forgiveness. For 4 years he waged his spiritual battle against the demons that tempted him.
Subsequently Saint Nyphont deserved God’s blessing and received an incredible gift. He could see demons among people and cast them out with his faith and prayer.
When Niphont grew old, he went to Alexandria. There, the Patriarch, according to God’s prophecy, consecrated him as the bishop of the city of Constantia in Cyprus. Before his death, angels and the Mother of God appeared to the monk.
