Balloon Day
June 5 is celebrated Hot air balloon day. In 1783, on this day, the Montgolfier brothers lifted the world’s first ball of fabric into the air, the volume of which was 600 m3. In 10 minutes, this construction covered a distance of 2 kilometers. At first, the audience was apprehensive about the invention of the brothers. But already in 5 months, the device lifted people into the air.
It was at this time that scientist Jacques Charles developed his balloon model. For this, he used a silk cloth impregnated with a turpentine solution of rubber. To adjust the height of the rise, the physicist used sandbags and a valve through which excess gas was released. The bullet stayed in the air for 45 minutes, traveling 28 kilometers. Despite the fact that Charles’s design was more perfect, all the laurels went to the Montgolfier brothers, because they were ahead of Jacques by 22 days.
In memory of this event, balloon festivals are held in many cities around the world, where professional athletes and amateurs compete.
