World Tetris Day
The well-known toy “Tetris” celebrates its birthday – World Tetris Day – June 6. Almost every person on the planet is familiar with this exciting game, which used to exist in physical form, and now it is also available in an electronic version.
In 1984, on June 6, Soviet programmer Oleksiy Pazhitnov invented a computer version of the game. A former employee of the Computing Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR at that time worked on solving a much more difficult task – the creation of artificial intelligence and speech recognition programs. The first version of the game was written by Oleksiy Pazhitnov in the Pascal programming language specifically for the Elektronika-60 computer.

- “Tetris” is a puzzle that is created using geometric shapes that must be assembled in a certain way as quickly as possible. After the official presentation of the game, an incredible number of its versions were developed on various platforms. Already at the beginning of the 90s, the profits of the companies that developed “Tetris” were calculated in tens of millions of dollars.
- Oleksiy Pazhitnov was able to take full advantage of the results of his work as early as 1996. The programmer founded The Tetris Company LLC and Blue Planet Software, launched a legendary brand and began to earn profits from his own business.
- The game has become the object of serious scientific research. Scientists have proven that “Tetris” can be used as a fairly effective tool to combat increased food cravings and drug addiction due to enhanced brain activity.
- Later, the game was released on more than 65 platforms, which in itself is already a world record. 500 million downloads of “Tetris” on mobile devices is also quite a significant number. In terms of the number of commercial versions sold, the game surpasses any other computer game.
