World Taekwondo Day

On September 4, 1994, in France, at a session of the international organization governing the Olympic movement, taekwondo was included in the list of sports officially recognized for the Olympic Games. The first international competition in this type of martial arts was held in the summer of 2000 in Australia. In 2006, at the extraordinary session of the General Assembly, which was held in Vietnam, the International Taekwondo Federation proposed to approve this very date to celebrate Taekwondo Day. For the first time, the ceremony was held in South Korea, where this type of martial arts was born.

Taekwondo is considered a young form of martial arts, which arose on the basis of traditional martial arts, known as early as 2,000 years ago. This martial art began to develop rapidly since 1945, and 10 years later, after the unification of martial arts schools, its name was approved, which consists of three words: “the” (leg), “kwon” (hand, fist) and “to » (learning, the path to self-development, knowledge). Therefore, the discipline is characterized by the use of hands and feet for strikes in attack or defense, without the use of weapons.

Celebrating Taekwondo Day, fans of the martial art organize competitions and duels, as well as conduct information campaigns to attract new participants to their ranks.
