Champagne birthday
August 4 – Champagne birthday – is considered an unofficial holiday of all connoisseurs of sparkling wine, as well as his birthday.
Champagne’s birthday in history
The history of champagne begins with a monk of the Abbey of Hautvilliers – Father Pierre Pérignon. He was responsible for the replenishment of food supplies, and also had a hobby – wine production, so he often experimented in this area. On August 4, 1668, Pierre asked the abbot brothers to taste his new “invention” – wine with a swirl of bubbles and a silvery light foam.
Abbé Pérignon was the first not only in creating a recipe for the drink. He was also the first to introduce cork stoppers.
Only half a century later, Abbot Fedina discovered the method of preparation. Another 10 years later, champagne went on mass sale, the first producer of the drink was the Ruinar company. For more than 300 years of its existence, champagne has gained fans all over the world, so it is not surprising that different producers tried and are trying to repeat the technology of its production. But according to the Treaty of Madrid of 1891, only sparkling wine produced in the French province of Champagne can be called champagne.
Interesting to know
- The quality and taste of champagne is determined by the size of the bubbles. The smaller they are, the better the drink.
