World Art Nouveau Day

It is celebrated annually on June 10 International Art Nouveau Day. In 2013, the Hungarian magazine Szecessziós Magazin initiated the organization of this holiday in cooperation with the Museum of Applied Arts, located in Budapest. The first celebration was held there. This event was supported by the European art movement in Belgium and Spain.

Date for celebration World Art Nouveau Day specially chosen. Great modernist architects passed away on this day: Eden Lechner, who designed the same Museum in Budapest, and the Spaniard Antonio Gaudi.

The purpose of the event is to popularize the style in various fields of art and preserve its creative works. Every year, World Art Nouveau Day is dedicated to a certain theme: different elements of art that are created according to the rules of this style.


Features of style

At the end of the 19th century, in contrast to the historicism popular at that time, the art of young people was born, the characteristic features of which were plasticity and fluidity. And the main elements were tongues of flame borrowed from nature, wavy and sinusoidal lines, stylized plants, intertwined leaves, animal and bird body shapes.
