The first constitution of Ukraine
Every year on April 5, Ukraine celebrates the conclusion the first constitution of Ukraine, because it was on this day in 1710 that hetman Pylyp Orlyk drew up the constitutional treaty of our state at a Cossack meeting near Tyagin.
The first constitution was written in both Old Ukrainian and Latin languages. The document consists of 16 articles, which define the rights and obligations of members of the Zaporizhzhya Army.
The Ukrainian original of the constitution was found not so long ago – in 2008 in Russia. And already in 2010, a monument to the first constitution of Ukraine appeared, which was erected in the city of Bendery (former Tyagina) in honor of the 300th anniversary of the treaty. The Latin document has been preserved in Sweden since the 18th century.
