Every year on April 18, Ukraine celebrates an important event – Foundation Day of the Red Cross Society in Ukraine. After all, on this day in 1918, thanks to the Mariinsky Community of the Sisters of Mercy, the first congress of the society took place in Kyiv.

Red Cross Society is a humanitarian voluntary public organization, the purpose of which is to help people, namely the protection of health and life, and the relief of suffering.

The organization was created during the First World War, so the main tasks included the arrangement of hospitals and canteens, in addition, the society actively fought against epidemics.

Now Red Cross cares about the development of the ideas of humanism and tolerance, fights against tuberculosis and AIDS, involves society in donations, helps victims of the Chernobyl disaster and even reunites families.
