July 5 is celebrated not only by residents of Sloviansk, but also by all patriots of Ukraine The day of liberation of the city from pro-Russian terrorists. On this day, the Ukrainian military pushed the militants out of the occupied territory and raised the national yellow-blue flag on the square.

The history of the Day of liberation of the city of Sloviansk from pro-Russian terrorists

Terrorists began the occupation of the city on April 12, 2014, by seizing the city department, the city council, and the SBU building. On this day, the militants seized 420 weapons, which made it possible to arm the representatives of local crime who decided to voluntarily join the separatists.

Since April 13, fierce battles have been taking place in the city and nearby settlements, in which dozens of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians were killed. Losses among terrorists amounted to 470 people.

Schools, hospitals, private and high-rise buildings were destroyed and damaged. There was no electricity and water in the city, the railway and road access roads were blocked, and a curfew was imposed.

As a result of a large-scale anti-terrorist operation, in which the Armed Forces were involved, the city was liberated from militants on July 5. And at 1:00 p.m., the flag of Ukraine was already flying over the city council on the city’s main square.
