International Day of Equality at Work

On January 11, an international holiday is celebrated – Day of equality at work. The main goal is to encourage diversity in the workplace, to combat discrimination based on sex, age, race, religion, and physical or mental disability that exists in the field of employment. This day was celebrated for the first time in 2017 in London at the Leadenhall Building. Events were also held all over the world – in the USA, Australia, Japan.

The main purpose of the holiday is also its biggest problem. Despite the fact that most countries have anti-discrimination laws, inequality at work is widespread even in developed countries. The main reason for this position is bias. Many employers inadvertently or unconsciously evaluate workers with biases instead of relying solely on experience, knowledge and skills. The struggle for equality has been going on for decades.

  • According to the World Economic Forum, it will take 170 years to achieve economic equality between men and women. Another goal of the day is to speed up this process.
